The freedom to organize for change

I had written an email that pointed out the irony of celebrating the signing of the Declaration of Independence on the 4th of July despite slavery being legal and practiced in all 13 colonies.

However, in light of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Monday in Trump v. United States, the heat wave that will likely kill many vulnerable Americans, and the havoc of Hurricane Beryl in the Caribbean, I felt it was more important to remind you that we still have the freedom to organize to create change.

So tomorrow, I’ll be celebrating those who have organized to ensure that Americans have the “four freedoms” as defined by Franklin Roosevelt:

Freedom of speech, the freedom of worship, the freedom from want, and the freedom from fear.
