Does an opportunity economy create an equal opportunity society?
Does cutting taxes for middle-class families create a society where lower-income individuals are not viewed as expendable?
Does making rent more affordable mean that landlords won’t won’t discriminate against individuals based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or experience with the criminal justice system? Does making homeownership more attainable mean that race, ethnicity, and gender will no longer influence the price of a home?
Will increasing the number of small businesses or increasing investments in entrepreneurship reduce perceptions about women and minority-owned businesses so that they can earn sustainable profits?
Will taking down bad actors, which are usually large corporations, to bring down costs reduce the number of businesses in minority communities that price gouge?
Will strengthening and bringing down the cost of healthcare
- reduce disparities in maternal mortality for Black women?
- reduce disparities in number of Black women who die from breast cancer, cervical, or ovarian cancer?
- reduce the number of women who die from heart disease?
- alter the value of a woman to be more than what her womb creates?
- ensure that providers have the knowledge to offer quality care through all the cycles of a woman’s reproductive health? A menopausal woman cannot watch her grandchildren if she is not healthy.
Will protecting and strengthening Social Security and Medicare ensure that seniors are economically secure, i.e., have enough money to cover housing, food, Medicare premiums, and medicine expenses, and age in place?
Will supporting American innovation and workers create a labor force without occupation segregation? I mean absolutely no occupation segregation! Not a labor market where occupation segregation is acceptable if a group earns a livable wage.
Does providing a pathway to the middle class through quality and affordable education create a society where parents and their children understand that not being accepted to a top university does not mean that your life is over or that someone has taken your seat? There are several colleges and universities recognized as leader producers. Will it mean an end to all preferences – legacy, special talents, athletics, etc.?
Will investing in affordable childcare provide the same quality for all children? Or make crappy childcare affordable for working parents?
Will investing in long-term care reduce the disparities in the quality of health care seniors and those with disabilities receive based on race, ethnicity, gender, and income?
Will lowering energy costs and tackling the climate crisis be achieved by implementing socially responsible policies, such as planting trees in urban low-income neighborhoods and respecting ownership of natural resources?
Despite these questions, I believe in equal opportunity and understand that it is not always distributed equally.
