Childcare for Al

On July 21, 2021, we will host our first webinar!

We are excited to have Dionne Dobbs, Ph.D.,  Senior Director of Research at Child Care Aware® of America (CCAoA), and LaKesha Petty, owner, Pamper Me Nursery.  Dionne and LaKesha will discuss child care providers’ challenges and how the American Rescue Plan (ARP) and other proposed care infrastructure bills will increase access to child care for families.  We are particularly interested in hearing from the panelists how ARP and human infrastructure bills can eliminate child care deserts.

According to the Center for American Progress (CAP),

A child care desert is any census tract with more than 50 children under age 5 that contains either no child care providers or so few options that there are more than three times as many children as licensed child care slots.

I do not live in a child care desert (See Figure 2), despite my neighborhood being high poverty (See Figure 3).

I encourage you to explore CAP’s interactive map to see if you live in a child care desert.
