A Vision Born on
International Women's Day
In 2016, on a day dedicated to celebrating women's
achievements and calling for gender equality, WISER was founded with a revolutionary idea: that inequality hides in the aggregate.
We saw how traditional research lumped together diverse
experiences under broad categories, making invisible the
unique challenges faced by Asian, Black, Hispanic,
Indigenous American, and Multiracial women.

Revolutionary Methodology
WISER counters traditional methodology with a microanalysis approach that disaggregates data by race, ethnicity, and gender. This reveals different conclusions for each group, challenging the assumption that "women of color" are a homogeneous group.
Our approach recognizes that using broad categories results
in ineffective policies that do not address the needs of the
most vulnerable.
